question about the advantage of using multiple objects and saving.
Hello Gamemakers, Over the past few weeks I've been working on my little project and I'm learning more and more. I'm really liking gml and how simple it is and how a few clever show_debug_message can help you figure about almost anything that is going wrong or on. But that's neither here nor there. I have 2 questions this time. The first is about objects, not instances. Basically my game will have a bunch of different buildings, bars, casinos, pawn shops, etc. And they will also all have a direction in which they're facing, either up, down, left or right. Because each of these [buildings, direction] pairs will have a different sprite I'd figured originally that I would have to create a different object for each [building, direction] pair, so obj_bar_up, obj_bar_right, obj_casino_down, etc. However now that I'm actually starting to code it I'm noticing that I might really only need 1 object, obj_building, since pretty much everything about the buildings will need to be passed upon creation with a with statement. And since I'm basically passing everything about the building object to it upon creation I might as well pass it what type of building it is, its direction and its sprite. My question is wether this is a good idea. I'm relatively new to gml and this is a pretty big decision to make. I just want to know from you more experienced folk if this is going to cause problems later down the line somewhere or if there is a strong advantage to using multiple objects. My other question is about saving. From what I've read the default saving funtion of gamemaker isn't very good or reliable. Does anyone have any idea how reliable it is and where it falls short? Should I just immediately skip it for a better saving system? Talking about better saving systems, I've come across JSON. I kinda get the idea but not fully. I understand that you can use a ds_map to create unique keys and store ds_lists inside with all the information about the state of the game, encode that and turn it into a file, then read it whenever you want. That's where I kinda stop getting it, what does reading the file do? What save system do you guys recommend? Thanks for reading, Good Gaming Luck
Ever since BC's casinos were closed the pawn shops have been empty. Now is be a good baseline to begin a socio-economic study on the effects casinos have in our communities.
I am a firm believer that casinos are a blight in our society. They offer false hopes of riches to those who can least afford it and bleed life savings from good people with poor judgement. My belief was strengthened yesterday while asking pawn shop owners why their shelves were bare. Each of them said that the CERB gave their clientelle with drug addictions enough money to reclaim and keep their pawned items. Then two said that their most profitable clients were people trying to win back their losses at the casino.
(TX/NV) My dad got mega-scammed, manipulated, possibly drugged and was extorted $47k. Scammers want to negotiate so he doesn't go to the Police. I need a lawyer to put pressure/interact with them.
This story started out 2 days ago and I reached out to scam Editing a short version of the events here for clarity. If you have any other places that you recommend where I can get advice on this, please let me know. Summary: My dad is a 70 years old Vietnamese regular Joe who is part of the Vietnamese community in Houston. He was the victim of an elaborate extortion scheme, which has left him with $47k in debts (3 credit card charges,1 eCheck). The scheme was perpetrated by 2 Vietnamese characters (mother and son-in-law) and unfolded between Texas, California, Las Vegas. I am beyond any reasonable doubt that manipulative techniques and quite possibly drugs were used - but there is no proof for the drugs (tested negative, 60+ hours after events) After 2 days of getting around to the authorities (FBI, Houston PD, Las Vegas PD), I don’t know whether police reports or charges will hold, so I need to prepare for the next step: facing the creditors (Casino, Pawn shop). The perpetrators of the scheme have admitted in writing to having “done a lot of bad” to my dad and are asking him for time to repay him “give me a chance to gamble and get some winnings, and I will get everything back to you.” My current priority is to protect my dad, and that seems to mean I need to get a lawyer to interact with the perpetrators. Where I could really use some guidance: * We need to lawyer up for this, and I have never had to find an attorney. * How do I proceed and what should I keep in mind? * How does one even begin searching, and selecting an attorney (Houston, TX)?
How legal does it sound to open up a casino-style venue where people trade their chips in for prizes such as toys rather than money, and then have a separate pawn shop down the road where people can trade these prizes in for what they'd win if they played in a real casino?
In case anyone is interested and looking for new games to back on KickStarter etc, you may want to have a look at Hope City. (I am not the game creator, I only ever met him once, I just like the game) I had the chance to play this game at WBC this year in its Prototype form and we had a great time. It's a co-op game with some really interesting mechanisms. Essentially your group of 3-6 players take on individual roles as pillars of the community, trying to work together to help lead the city to greatness, while fighting off the punks of chaos. If you do well you will see great new structures emerge in your city like the City Hall, Bank, School, Lab, and the Park... however if you fail the city those building contracts could instead cause the appearance of urban blights like the Casino, Pawn Shop, Prison, Bunker, and the Dump. If stretch goals are reached there are some sweet minis for the buildings too. As far as game play goes, like I said, there are some sweet mechanisms. Each character card has a good side and a bad side - each of which has its own downfalls and advantages. While playing you will be forced to face tough decisions and may find it beneficial to give up come of your talent cubes to help the city along, but you can also encounter trouble with corruption. Gain too many corruption cubes and your character will break bad, flipping to their doppelganger personae. The appearance of punks in Hope City causes fights to break out throughout and you may find yourself forced to face off with them one on one. This faceoff can end one of two ways, either the punk is defeated and can be wiped from the board or your character may see some hard times of their own. Lastly, the resources... oh man, the resources. You'll need certain colored cubes (representing resources from each of the main areas of focus; Society, Technology, Politics, Economics, and Environment) to help complete objective cards as you play. The more objectives you complete, the better your city does... the more objectives you fail the more the pillars start to crumble. As the resource cubes get used some will find their way to a draw bag. In the draw bag there may be a mix of perfectly good resources, but their may be some corruption leftover from bad events, corrupt players etc. So the tension increases with every pull. TLDR: Work together, fight punks, do good, save the city. Fail to do so and fights will erupt, corruption will take over and urban blight will plague the city. Can you save Hope City?
Platform(s): Played it on Windows 98 Genre:Casino Estimated year of release:90s Graphics/art style:Fairly realistic Notable characters:None, I don't think there was anyone on-screen Notable gameplay mechanics:You started with some money, but also your grandfather's(?) pocket watch, which you could pawn to this shop that had a visual inventory (like all the things were on this green velvet background i think?) and also buy a couple things. Something for luck maybe, plane tickets maybe? sorry. Other details: Definitely had like a "you flew in, dont lose all your money and be stranded here" thing going on. Googling and Moby Games haven't been helpful. I was able to find a yahoo answers post but it was unanswered. They say (if talking about the same game) you could walk from game to game, but i don't think that was a "press arrow keys to move" situation, just point and click what game to play. Wish I could be more helpful!

10 notable anti-corruption cases in 2020
10) SIS concluded the investigation of former president Serj Sargsyan's alleged embezzlement of ֏500 million in agricultural subsidies in 2013. Serj appeared in court as a defendant in February. The case continues. 9) ex-HHK MP and ex-Soccer Federation Chief Ruben Hayrapetyan (oligarch Nemets Rubo) was charged with large-scale embezzlement. In February, he was charged with embezzling $1.5 million-worth lands belonging to the Soccer Federation. (he was earlier implicated in the case about organizing the kidnapping, extortion, and torturing of a man who allegedly stole from his restaurant) 8) ex-Yerevan Mayor and Transport Minister HHK Gagik Beglaryan was charged with embezzling ֏230 million in state property. He was also interrogated as part of a ֏23 billion embezzlement in the North-South highway construction project. His brother is implicated in a ֏85 million embezzlement case. 7) ex-Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan (wanted) and ex Israel Ambassador Armen Smbatyan (paid a bail) are charged with using an offshore scheme to embezzle the state property. 6) Serj Sargsyan's brother Alexander was a defendant in the case of the 14 stolen paintings by Martiros Saryan. Pashinyan announced that Alexander's $30 million bank account was frozen. Alexander agreed to return the funds to state coffers. $26 million was recovered. $7.5 million was recovered as part of Martiros Saryan's painting case. Another $19 million was recovered -- or as he says, "donated" -- for the army modernization. 5) Powerful Churchman Archbishop Kchoyan (Bentley guy) was charged as part of an investigation of the forceful appropriation of another businessman's property by using an offshore firm, which was run by several individuals, including the churchman and allegedly the former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. More on that here. 4) Felony case was launched over the purchase of $42 million in weapons that turned out to be dysfunctional. Pashinyan mentioned this on several occasions, blaming the former regime for "wasting resources instead of developing the army." More recently, Pashinyan criticized General Movses "Mosi" Hakobyan, saying the waste took place under his administration. 3) Serj Sargsyan's chief bodyguard Vachagan Ghazaryan and his alleged accomplices had their felony tax-evasion charges dropped after compensating ֏3 billion ($6.3 million) to state coffers. 2) Serj's son-in-law Mikael Minasyan (Povar Ishik) was charged by IRS in March after the "revelation of an unprecedented level of corruption in modern Armenian history". Minasyan is accused of illegal enrichment. The investigation continues. Minasyan is residing in Russia, which won't extradite him due to close connections. Details on Mishik's case here, here, here, here (laptop recovered with 9000 files), here, here, here, here, maybe here, definitely here, here, here, 1) BHK leader Gagik Tsarukyan was charged with organizing an election fraud during 2017 and financial crimes by his casino Shangri La. The investigation began in late 2019 after a construction firm, with ties to Tsarukyan, paid a bribe to a Yerevan official in an unrelated incident. Tsarukyan likely learned about the pending charges against him and launched a major opposition campaign against Pashinyan, to then frame his charges as "political persecution" for being critical to the government. https://www.civilnet.am/news/2021/01/03/2020-ի-10-քրեական-գործերը/414983 https://www.evnreport.com/politics/the-political-rise-and-fall-of-tycoon-gagik-tsarukyan
Armenia will import 2250 types of products from Iran instead of Turkey, amid the 6-month ban on Turkish product imports. "This will be a good opportunity for Iranian producers. In the next step, [Armenia] will supply its required raw materials from Iran," said the chief of the Iranian trade agency. The govt had earlier met Chinese representatives to discuss the replacement of other Turkish items with Chinese ones. https://en.mehrnews.com/news/167965/Armenia-to-import-2-250-goods-from-Iran-instead-of-Turkey
border "demarcation" process continues in Syunik
The process to install Armenian and Azeri troops continues on the new borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the Syunik province. The border was formerly Syunik (Armenia) - Qashatag (formerly Artsakh). Syunik's Shurnukh and Vorotan were built on the immediate internationally-recognized border, and some of them were on the Azeri side. As a result, a dozen buildings will go under Azeri control. Shurnukh village mayor complained about losing several houses and Azeris being too close. Syunik governor said border guards have been installed in areas surrounding Shurnukh. Russian and Armenian guards are placed in certain parts of this 21 km border. https://factor.am/325886.html
European Court for Human Rights has approved a petition by Armenia to implement emergency measures to require Azerbaijan to share information about the conditions of 23 POWs. "So far, such petitions were approved for 80 POWs, 18 of whom have already returned home," said Armenia's representative in Court. Armenia's HR Ombudsman Tatoyan criticized Aliyev for calling Armenian POW soldiers "terrorists" and for keeping them arrested, which delays the swap process. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039433.html , https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039480.html
New Years Eve memorial concert in Yerablur Pantheon:
... in the Fizuli region that went under Azeri control during the war. Azeri prosecutors launched an investigation. In turns out, some Azeri civilians visit these areas without allowing the sappers to clear the areas from landmines first. So far, 10 Azeris have died or received injuries from such explosions after the ceasefire. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039473.html

Russian humanitarian aid in Artsakh
Russia sent 5,000 m2 glass for window replacement, 70 tons of metal parts, 34000 bedding items, to Martuni and Martakert cities. Earlier they sent 20 mobile electricity generators to help the areas that were cut off from the main electric grid. Russian doctors have so far treated 1044 Artsakh residents with various complaints. There are medical teams that travel in rural areas to provide care, including mental health services. The doctors received New Year's gifts from the medical administrator Oleg Bagayev. https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039453.html , https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1039463.html
Ara Ghazaryan from Los Angeles built the world's smallest chess and made it into the Guinness World Records book. It's 8x8 millimeter. "Ara Ghazaryan is an Armenian American artist who uses jewelry to express his art and formerly held this record title. The chess board itself is made from 18 k yellow and white gold with Armenian apricot wood and rests on a frame made of platinum, 18 k yellow gold, rubies, and diamonds. The figures measure in height from 1 mm for the pawns to 2.4 mm for the kings." Tomorrow is day 120 for me and while I am very proud of that, I’m doing my best not to get complacent, because I know I can be back to day 0 at any moment. My first week into recovery I wrote my goodbye letter to gambling and re-reading it tonight has given me new energy. I’m sharing it in case someone might find it helpful. Dear Gambling, I remember the first time I saw you from across the golf course - everyone seemed to be laughing and having fun. It looked like they enjoyed your company and when I asked who you were, I remember my Dad saying how you “made things more interesting.” I was intrigued, but too scared to come say hi myself, so I just watched from a distance, while somehow knowing our paths would cross again. Years later they did. I was 18 and had been playing free pub poker when one of the guys that ran it, asked my then fiance and I if we wanted to try it for real. I was intrigued again, so we followed him to an underground poker room and as we walked in, I saw you there. Our eyes met and from then on we were inseparable. We would play golf together. I would go to the Casinos to meet you. I would take you everywhere with me via a sports bet and when I wasn’t wrapped in the action of your arms, you were always on my mind. I was obsessed. You were a part of the person I had become, part of my identity. I wasn’t just Rachel, I was Rachel the poker player or Rachel the sports better. Looking back, I had myself and others convinced that we had such a great relationship. That you made me happy. I told everyone about all the fun we had together -- the great calls, the big wins. I painted one side of the canvas leaving out the dark side of our relationship -- the losses, the fights, the visits to the pawn shops, the depleted 401K, how you made me sell my stock and use my bonus to gamble some more and the many times it crossed my mind that suicide would be my only escape from you. I hate the person I am with you. I hate the way you make me feel -- the way you string me along with false hope and fantasies of what could be only to slap me down to reality with yet another big loss. I hate how I am towards other people because of you - my compassion and kindness dependent on how things were going with you. I’ve wanted to quit you so many times. I tried so many times. But this time feels different, this time I truly feel ready to change. I’m ready to be happy. I’m ready to reclaim my identity. Ready to be whole without you, Rachel
Does anyone know if any casinos will accept gold coins like 1/10 Canadian maple leafs at the cage? Should I ask for a manager? I had my wallet stolen and I have to dip into my emergency shoe fund. Pawn shops are sometimes a ripoff.
Does anyone else find this annoying? I'm spreading my rackets out in one corner of West Loop Gate, so I have three speakeasies at different ends, a brothel and a casino, with plenty of breweries inbetween, and on the other side of the neighbourhood I'm doing the same. But my customer tab is always yellow. Even if I upgrade my rackets, they rarely fill with customers. I own most of the neighbourhood so I have rackets all over. I think there should have been more legit buildings to own. Omerta did this well. You could own every building in this along with boxing rings, but also build soup kitchens, pawn shops, pharmacies to earn clean money. I wish this game did something similar. I mean Jackson's backstory is that he looks after his community and everyone respects him, but theres no legitimate ways to earn money or take over the neighbourhood. If I could build five of each racket and dozens of legit businesses in one neighbourhood I think it would solve a big problem with the game. There's just no point in having more than five of each racket in one neighbourhood because between yours and rival gangs rackets, you don't get full customers.

By altering my CB radio and increasing its frequency range you can pick up another new bandwidth - by tuning its frequency right up you can hear high pitched noise - at first it sounds like hiss - but what i discovered is it is actually the Reptilians talking. By putting the dialogue into a computer I was able to transpose the high noise down and what I discovered is amazing. Anyone can do it and tune into the Reptilian bandwidth. Its on 778.88.7 bandwidth. There are Reptilian juggernaught ships on their way to Earth , they have put down these monolith points like the one in Utah and they are homing beacons for ships. Similar monoliths have been put in NYC , Paris and Moscow and many other cities. One of the ships , the mothership has a time signiture diameter of a whole city - its that big. When I first tuned in I thought it was just white noise but no ... by tuning it downwards you can hear the whole dialogue of the Reptilians - I was also able to tune into the Reptilians on Earth and locate some of their bunkers. Yesterday I went to investigate one of the signals - it was coming from near a pawn shop local to me. I knocked the door of the shop and a strange man opened the door - once inside i could tell that the shop had something going on. I asked to see the manager and the man acted strangely , so I made myself inconspicuous. I just browsed the shop and hid around one of the aisles , after closing time i remained in the shop and quietly let the shop keeper leave , he locked up and i was alone in there. Carefully i pulled out my handheld CB radio , I tuned it in to the high frequency and i could hear the Reptilians plotting something. I followed the signal by extending my arm , this made the signal either clearer or more faint - and by pointing towards the counter i could get much clearer reception - which led me to decide i should go behind the counter , slowly i opened the door behind the shops front - and with the cb radio i could hear a whole room of Reptilians talking from behind a door. I pushed the next door , just a little , i didnt want them to hear me ... Thats when i saw them , they were all sat round a table , gambling , they had chips like in a casino and the air was full of cigar smoke and each had a bottle of moonshine and there were Reptilian prostitutes next to them. I knelt down and slowly pulled out my cassette recording device which I had previously bought for evidence. I gently clicked the record button. I got a cramp in my arm from sitting so awkwardly and then my arm knocked a broomstick over next to the cleaning cuboard and with that one of the Reptilians jumped up and said ' whos there ?' I ran out of the store and when i got to the door pulled at it but it was locked. I didnt know what to do and in a panic I picked up a TV set and smashed the window - I made my escape on foot , running down the back alley - looking behind me there were 6 Reptilians sprinting towards me , luckily they were so drunk that they could not catch me. I climbed a wire fence and there was no chance they would catch me I returned back to my underground base and told the others what I had discovered , at first they were questioning me , but then i produced my tape recordings - its just hiss they said when i hit the play button - but then i put it into the computer and downtuned the recording - the Reptilians were on tape and everyone was listening to it intensely. They were talking about the mothership landing and the location beacons - i had it on tape , all of it. I will be using the radio to find out more later , i must be more careful next time as i nearly got caught by the Reptilian last night.

1. QUESTION: How do I get in touch with customer service phone support? ANSWER: The highest level of official customer service is known as "tier 2" and can be reached by calling 1-800-659-2955 and asking for Tier 2. (NOTE: As of 5/29 the previous direct number is currently out of service) They are unfortunately, a very limited means of support. They are able to check your application status and see the current "stage" and leave notes in your file, but unable to directly make any changes or escalate anything in a meaningful way. Most are very nice and well meaning people but are usually poorly informed and often provided contradictory information between calls. The important thing to understand is that notes left by T2 do not actually notify a loan officer or anyone, they are simply waiting to be read if someone happens to open your file and takes the time to review the case notes. So if a T2 says they requested a change do not assume it was or will be made. 2. QUESTION: What are my chances of being approved for this loan? Can I know in advance? ANSWER: The loan is relatively easy to get approval for by loan standards. The exact underwriting criteria the SBA is using was leaked by some helpful people (hat tip to u/Sbaleaky) and thus you can have a good understanding what your chances are. Underwriters look for the following: -Minimum Credit Score of 570. They will pull from experian. Close to Vantage 3 model found on nav DOT com or TransUnion numbers on credit karma. They do NOT use FICO. Credit score is largest factor for approval for this loan and no exceptions are made for under 570. -If economic injury was sustained based on formula described in QUESTION 4. If this is a negative number you will be auto declined. (SEE QUESTION 5) The SBA does not consider potential revenue lost or general expenses in the loan amount. -Tax liens or tax issues are NOT a disqualifying factor or taken into consideration for COVID19 disaster. -Business start date must be prior to 1/31/20 -open bankruptcies = Declined. Closed OK. -Arrest for felony < 5 years = Declined -Arrest for misdemeanor < 5 years = Declined -Sole proprietors with delinquent child support > 60 days = Declined -Any business principals with 50% or more ownership with delinquent child support > 60 days = Declined -Your business must pass verification in some way that it is a valid operation. If they can find it on google it will suffice. Otherwise you may have to provide documents to prove it's a legit business. -Your business type must not be on the list for ineligible business activity. See list on FAQ. -All owners on application must be either US citizens or Permanent Residents. E-2 Investor visa is NOT eligible and any attempts to appeal or add a co-borrower who is a citizen or LPR will be unsuccessful. Corporations, Partnerships, and Limited Liability Entities (LLE): Alien-owned corporations, partnerships, and LLEs properly registered and licensed in the state where the disaster occurred are eligible. If any member, partner, or shareholder, owning 20 percent or more of the applicant business is in the USA they must be a qualified alien. If the alien resides outside the USA an exception may be made. 3. QUESTION: I received a decline letter for “Business activity not eligible”. What can I do? ANSWER: EIDL has a list of restricted business categories, if your type is NOT on this list and you still received this letter you may have been improperly classified. The following applicants are not eligible for EIDL assistance.

Concerns Involved in Change in Ownership Situations: Concerns which had a substantial change of ownership (more than 50 percent) after the impending economic injury became apparent, and no contract for sale existed prior to that time are ineligible .
4. QUESTION: How is the loan amount calculated? How can I request a specific amount? ANSWER: There is no way to request a specific amount, the eligible amount is calculated automatically by formula based on your inputs. There are three known formulas:
Standard Small Business: Revenue minus COGS divided by 2 minus advance, subject to maximum of 150K
Not for Profit: 6 months operating expenses year prior to 1/31/20
Business that collects rental property income, your offer is calculated by lost rents due to the disaster, not the standard formula. If your offer is lower than expected you may have been wrongly classified into this formula.
Agricultural businesses: 6 months operating expenses year prior to 1/31/20
If the formula results in a negative number or less than your advance you will be declined for "ECONOMIC INJURY NOT SUSTAINED" 5. QUESTION: What is the maximum loan amount? ANSWER: As of last update it is currently 150K cap. This will not change anytime soon and there will be no way to request more at present. The only way to avoid the cap is if your loan was already being obligated prior to the change by the SBA from 500K. If I hear anything new on this it will be updated here. 6. QUESTION: When will I get my portal invite? ANSWER: Portal invites are a fully automated process and not strictly sequential but follow general group patterns. If you see someone that has a higher number than you get a portal invite it does NOT mean you were "passed over". 7. QUESTION: I finally got a portal invite and accepted and submitted an amount. My application says it is "processing", now what? ANSWER: This is when the actual loan process starts and underwriting begins. Your application will be assigned a loan officer for review using the criteria listed in question 2. The exact process is as follows (hat tip u/sbaleaky and u/LOL_Face_69) with the actual stages from start to finish. Keep in mind that once you accept in the portal a number of things are going on behind the scenes, which is why "processing" can take a great deal of time. Once you see a loan amount in your portal, this is NOT a "pre-approved offer". It is simply a potential amount you are eligible for based on the stated formula if you pass underwriting.
Initial Call Needed (credit not ran)
Credit Pulled (waiting for automated portal invitation, this is by far the longest part of the process)
Quoted (received portal invite with an eligible amount)
Offer Accepted (you confirmed and submitted an amount in the portal)
Submitted Deal (waiting to be assigned to a Loan Officer)
LO assigned and makes decision: Declined, Duplicate, Approved
[The following takes place behind the scenes and will not reflect in your portal, but will still say "processing"]
Approved: T2 Rep can now see your loan is approved on their screen. This means the Loan Officer has approved the deal and it is now going to the Senior Loan Officer. If the SLO does not approve the deal then it will go to declined.
Obligating: SLO known as a "team leader" reviews the work of the first LO to ensure everything was done correctly. Once they sign off on the deal the loan is now fully approved. The loan is being sent to the E-Tran system to receive a loan number. The loan has not yet received a loan number from E-Tran while obligating. This is the most common phase where hang ups in "processing" can error called "error in obligating". Usually due to small technical issues or errors in your information that need to be sorted.
Obligated: A loan number from E-Tran has been obtained and now closing documents can be drafted and sent to the borrower. This is when your portal would change from "processing" to approved. There may be a delay between when your offer is obligated to when it actually shows approved. I have seen it happen in as fast as 10 minutes or as long as 12 hours. You can also see approved but not have docs available. Docs will not show up until you get an email with the approval. The delay on this can be a few hours or more.
Funding: Docs are signed and the loan is automatically moved to funding stage to have treasury issue an ACH. This happens very quickly and you should see the ACH sent right after with the funds arriving in 24-48 hours on banking days. At this point you can track the disbursement with your loan number from the docs using CAWEB to see if the ACH has been sent. See CAWEB question.
Funded: Process complete, funds are successfully in your bank account. Congrats
Note: The exception to this process is that some applications which are considered easy (based on unknown factors) to approve are subject to full automation and may go straight to approval bypassing the above steps. This only happens in rare cases. You may also see a status that says, "On-Hold" Amount $0: This status typically is when your loan was temporarily declined and is still in the reconsideration department pending possible reconsideration approval. It most commonly relates to credit based issues or problems pulling your credit report from Experian. 8. QUESTION: I now understand that processing really means "underwriting", but how long will it actually take? What is the normal amount of time? ANSWER: The amount of time it is normal for your portal to say "processing" is highly variable as a hundred different factors are involved behind the scenes. Once you submit for processing you are in queue to be assigned a loan officer**.** If your application has been in underwriting for greater than 20 days it may merit investigate, but not necessarily indicate a problem with your chances of approval. Do NOT panic if it seems "stuck" with no communication from anyone. This is normal.
UPDATE: As of 7/20 the current queue/wait time to be assigned a loan officer, get approved, and have closing docs drafted is 14-18 days. Some are seeing immediate automated approvals same day, this only happens in around 30% of cases. The rest must be manually processed. You are NOT "stuck" if you are still within this time range.
9. QUESTION: Does contacting my congressmen or senator actually work? ANSWER: Yes, the SBA treats congressional inquiry very carefully and will flag and sometimes white glove your application. Often they will assign a special case worker during the process. The important thing is when your local congressional office reaches out they do NOT contact the local district SBA but this email: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). This email is NOT for use by applicants but only official government purposes. 10. QUESTION: Help! I accidentally entered the wrong revenue or COGS on my application and my offer amount was lower than I expected, is it possible to change this? ANSWER: Yes, butonly if you meet the following two conditions:
You should NOT have already accepted an amount and submitted for processing in the portal. *If you already did see note below.
You have documentation to backup the changes such as Federal Tax Returns 2018 or 2019 or P&L Statements. Tax returns are preferred if available but not required if the offer is showing as eligible in the portal.
The important thing here is DO NOT accept the offer in the portal if you need to revise your numbers.
*IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ACCEPTED THE OFFER: Call tier 2 support as soon as you possibly can and ask them to make the following note in your file: Loan Officer, DO NOT approve this file without calling me, the applicant, because my (revenue or COGS) figures are wrong. I have supporting docs to make the changes. Please contact me ASAP. 11. QUESTION: I need to change my Rev or COGS and I already accepted an amount in the portal, Tier 2 told me to do it! Is it too late? Answer: Unfortunately tier 2 is currently giving absolutely terrible advice in this situation. They are telling people to accept the offer in the portal to speak with a loan officer to make the revision. The problem is that once you accept you set the process in motion and then it gets obligated by treasury it is impossible to adjust. The proper time is prior to accepting. Often times loan officers never are needed, never reach out or even read these notes. I see it every day and people are stuck its the "kiss of death" advice. If you already accepted you may have time but would need to work quickly from date of submit. UPDATE: As of 6/15 there is now a way to fix this. See question 13. 12. QUESTION: Who are you, cue378? Can you help me? ANSWER: I am a small business owner sharing the information, strategies, and general knowledge I have gained over the course of 4 months and helping in almost 1000 cases. I do not work at the SBA nor do I have any affiliation with the SBA. Do to an extreme flood of requests for help, I will not be able to answer PM's or chat requests. Some people have asked how they can support my efforts. While I do not ask for donations, another volunteer decided to setup a tip jar in case people want to show their support. To be clear any assistance I offer is entirely free without any expectations. Please note, anything donated prior to contacting me in an effort to gain faster help/special attention won't yield those results, while appreciate your support I keep everything fair to others who don't donate. The tip jar can be found HERE. 13. QUESTION: My loan was obligated, already funded, or I already accepted the amount in the portal. I made a mistake with my COGS or revenue and I am not happy with the amount. Can I change it? ANSWER: As of 6/12 loan modifications are now being allowed. You can contact [pdc[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) and request a "Loan Modification increase". It is a 3-4 week process that requires documentation. A second loan will be given for the difference from the first one. It will be processed as a 20xx series loan in the old system/portal. For more details email me. Note if you have not yet accepted the offer the normal process is much faster. 14. QUESTION: How do I show support for the volunteers and moderators forEIDL ANSWER: For supporting Cue378, there is a tip jar listed above. If you wish to show support to our community moderators, you may reach out to them direct at u/tahoechick36 and u/Scorpio14534to ask how you can show your appreciation for their time and efforts. It takes a great deal work run the community and they are putting in a near full time effort outside their normal occupations. 15. QUESTION: I received my portal link, but when I go to create an account it just takes me to the login page or I get the error: "The user account has not been confirmed yet. What can be done? ANSWER: If you takes you back to the login screen instead of letting you create an account, try following the steps HERE 16. QUESTION: I was declined for "unsatisfactory credit". What are my options? ANSWER: You have a few options.
You can bring your vantage 3 score over 570 by paying down cards, when you are ready you can request the SBA re-pull your report and reactivate your account via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
*You can request to add a co-borrower that has a higher score than 570 with no open bankruptcy and run their credit to reactivate your application.
*As of July 20th the SBA is no longer allowing the use of a Co-Borrower for reconsideration of an insufficient credit denial. Further details and updates on this situation are available in the threadHERE. 17. QUESTION: What documents are required? Will a loan officer contact me? ANSWER: In many cases no documentation is required and everything is self certified. Most commonly an LO will need to contact you to clarify some things about your business or request specific documents, or confirm your public business presence. In about 1/3 cases you will receive no communication from a loan officer and approvals are automated. For denials you lose self certification ability and you will be required to furnish full documentation. 18. QUESTION: What is the status of the Advance/Grant program? Can I still get a grant? ANSWER: As most of you already know, the EIDL Advance/Grant program has ended and the full 20 billion in funding for the advance has been exhausted. The option has been removed from new applications. Getting funding for the advance as a new applicant at this time will not be possible. For older applications please see this post for more information: https://www.reddit.com/EIDL/comments/hr3l41/eidl_news_714_update_regarding_the_current_status/ 19. QUESTION: What are the eligible uses of EIDL funds? ANSWER: These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. What are all the possible uses of the funds? The wording ‘obligations that are unable to be met due to lack of revenue’ seems to be a catch all, but how much so? The EIDL working capital loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that could have been paid had the disaster not occurred. The loans are not intended to replace lost sales or profits or for expansion. If you have more specific questions on the allowable usage of EIDL funds, one of our moderators, u/Scorpio14534 who is also a licensed professional CPA that is very knowledgeable on this matter is open to email requests. They can be reached here: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) 20. QUESTION: I received a denial letter for the reason "ECONOMIC INJURY NOT SUSTAINED". What does this mean and what can I do? ANSWER: This occurs when the numbers entered on your application for COGS are greater than your revenue. The SBA calculates economic injury based on the formula in question number 4. You can also be denied for this reason if the resulting number is less than your advance amount. Please note that the SBA is only taking into account revenue earned prior to the disaster date of 1/31/20 to calculate your economic injury. If your only revenue was earned after that date as a newer business you may not qualify, but it is possible to use a 12 month projection which you can submit to reconsideration. If the numbers on your application were correct, you would not be eligible for an EIDL. If you made an error you can request an amendment and reactivation of your application. 21. QUESTION: What is CAWEB and how can it help me track my loan disbursement and other status? ANSWER: You can use the Capital Access Finance System to track your EIDL after your documents have been signed and submitted through funding. It allows you to see disbursement status and other details related to your loan. ****Hat tip tou/tahoechick36for this amazing write up*\* Using the Capital Access Finance System to track your EIDL after your documents have been signed and submitted through funding. Visit caweb.sba.gov or click the link at the top of EIDL Setting up an account: You need a SBA Loan # to set up an account - for EIDL it appears on the first page of your documents, in the upper left hand area, and says "SBA Loan # XXXXXXXXXX.” SBA loan #'s are 10 digits. Your Application # will NOT work for account set-up. If you have a PPP Loan, you can use your SBA # for this loan to set up an account. Sometimes this # is easy to figure out, sometimes not. That has to do with an intermediary (like your bank) being involved, but if you can track down an actual SBA Loan #, you can go ahead and get registered without your EIDL loan number.
On the home page click on "Not Enrolled?" in the top left. This takes you to a screen to enter info. You may come to hate this screen, this process is very finicky.
Look at the rules for creating a User ID and Password by clicking on "Rules..." next to the fields.
Write your exact ID & password down somewhere - if you ever get locked out and call the SBA for help, they are going to tell you that Borrowers are not supposed to be able to access CAFS CAWeb. Apparently we still can, so don't make this a big deal or maybe that will change!
For user type - select "borrower" from the drop down menu.
Fill in the highlighted fields with your info. Click on the "ZIP LOOKUP" button after you enter your zip code. This auto populates some other boxes, and registration won't work if you don't do this.
For the country code in the phone number section enter "1" for the United States.
Financial commitment ID is your Loan # - 10 digits.
If you don't have a landline, it has been reported that just entering your mobile number in both fields works. You will have to select 3 of their security questions, enter the Captcha image info, then hit "submit" at the bottom.
If it didn't like the info you have entered, it will give you an error message for what part it didn't like, and you will have to try again, which requires re-entering quite a bit of the information. It's a pain. But if it takes it, you're in! There may be a verification step now as well. Finding your loan on CAWeb
On the caweb homepage, login (if you aren't already), it will be personalized and show your name. You have to scroll down and check the "Agree to Terms" box when you are logging in.
Click on "Borrower" in the top left, then click on "Borrower Search". This should take you to your "Loan List" showing the loan #, borrower name, loan type, amount, and loan status.
PPP loans typically appear as "Active Un-Disbursed" - if your PPP is already funded don't worry about that. Your EIDL will show up as "Disbursed Current" if funds are on their way. It may say something else if you look immediately after you send back you Docs, but it should change pretty quickly. Logging out and back in again will sometimes refresh the status. Loan status will say "Active Un-Disbursed" until Treasury send the funds to your bank, then it changes to "Disbursed Current".
It depends on your bank when they post in your account (same day, next day, time).
If your banking info didn't verify, the transaction will fail to go through, and the status will revert.
If you are not funded within 3-4 banking days, there is likely a problem - check your info in your portal, call the SBA, and then email Cue if needed.
If you click on your loan# in the list, it opens up a page with details about your loan.
There's even a box at the bottom to check if you want electronic account statements only, but if you check that, a warning pops up about "all attached to this loan will be affected by this change", so we recommend not selecting that option just yet.
Fans of Resident Evil were more than happy to see Capcom come out with another zombie title that replaces tight hallways and puzzles with open-world exploration and a level-up system. The creation of Dead Rising, back in 2006, was a breath of fresh air that was surprisingly supposed to be a sequel to Shadow of Rome, which is a random gladiator game that pretty much nobody played but was something far ahead of its time. Fast forward about 10 years and 3 games later, and Dead Rising is as dead as the zombies that plague its mall, casinos, city, and mall again. Granted, the games changed from a Japanese studio to a Canadian studio after the first one was a smash hit and it was very visible that the second game was already of a different quality. However, once it hit 3, there was such a huge difference in the way the game functioned and played out, people outright refused to bother playing it(it didn’t help that it was an Xbox exclusive until the poorly optimized PC port came out). When it comes down to the first installment being a goofy game that lets you dress as a little school girl and ride a tricycle while zombies are swatting at wasps and yellow raincoat cult members are blowing themselves up, it’s hard to imagine people complaining that the third and fourth game got too silly for their own good. What a lot of people don’t realize is how that is a legitimate concern from gamers, due to the situation that is what I like to call “invisible nuance”. This invisible nuance is where people are unable to understand how the games differ from 1 and 2 over to 3 and 4, and this is because 1 and 2 are satire, while 3 and 4 are parody. In fact, 4 is a parody of the entire series, making it a parody of a parody. With that slight nuance, the Canadian designers not only ruined the story for everyone, but they ruined any chance of a fifth game until Capcom gets so desperate they might as well summon up their own zombie horde to sit down and buy their games. I understand that not many people understand the difference between parody and satire, and I am certain the developers didn’t either when they adopted the IP from the Japanese studio. This is why I believe that the second game was accidentally good, even though they still fumbled on things like making Chuck a really iffy kind of melee fighter at full level and how the game was starting to become a little bit too cartoony for its own good. To put it simply, satire is when a work of art is making fun a genre or work by being part of it. Parody is when a work of art is taking a genre or another work of art and is using it to make jokes that are unrelated to what it’s basing itself on. Satire uses humor to show flaws in human behavior or culture, while parody uses an established work of art to make a joke. It’s very difficult to understand the difference, I know, but I think I’m able to make it simple to understand with a few examples. My favorite example is the difference between Scream and Scary Movie. Scream is satire, Scary Movie is a parody. Scream has a plot revolving around the tropes of slasher films, Scary Movie has a chick belittle her killer after she’s decapitated. Scream has the group follow clues from slasher movies to avoid being killed, Scary Movie has a dude cum so hard the girl on top of him is stuck to the ceiling. If that doesn’t make the difference clear to you, then, I’m sorry, I fear you have the case of the brain worms. The plot of Dead Rising is a satire of Resident Evil, mixed with a take on American consumerism. The entire reason the zombie outbreaks occur in the mall is because a terrorist group wanted to bring the problem a corporation invoked on their Latino town of Santa Cabeza, all because the company wanted to make more cows in order to feed Americans. It’s not that Americans are staring, but rather they are demanding, and the best place to see American demand back in 2006 was in a shopping mall on Black Friday. Shaun of the Dead did a similar satire moment where they showed shoppers at a store walking like zombies because that’s pretty much how they look, just switch the words “brains” with “bargains”. Surprisingly, the first game doesn’t have money as an issue, although it was great when the second game implemented it for its theme of corporate anti-culture and big pharma. So far, we have two games that follow their themes very well and are applying them as a satire. The mall setting is a satire set up for consumerism, while the casino and wrestling ring strip in the second game is a satire set up for anti-culture turning people into greedy slobs that just want to watch blood matches and gamble. Even the main characters of Frank and Chuck work well as themes, with Frank being a journalist(he’s covered wars, you know) and Chuck being a motocross champion turned gladiator. Both of these cause their outbreaks for different reasons and both of these have a beautiful grip on what makes the psychopaths “psychopaths”. Psychopaths are the result of someone going crazy due to the outbreak and because the designers needed a reason to have boss battles across the game’s 3-day span. Just having them there was satire since it’s kind of rare to see people going crazy in zombie movies (back then) and it was interesting to see how humans would turn on humans by having PTSD and a history of being oppressed or already psychotic. The idea of Frank covering wars and then coming home to deal with people having PTSD is a great theme, due to how war has to be glorified in the American news to keep the war effort going, and then the soldiers come home and reveal how terrible it actually was. The first game even has a moment where a psychopath named Cliff goes crazy in a home repair store and after you defeat him, he gives a dramatic monologue about how he snapped the second he saw his granddaughter get eaten by zombies. It’s a heart-wrenching moment that is perfectly finished by Frank closing Cliff’s eyes with a hand and letting out a defeated sigh. Much like how it is in war, not every battle won is a victory. Then there are Psychopaths like Adam the clown who are memorable for the wonderful performance by the voice actor and how intense the battle is. But no matter what Psychopath we deal with, they all follow a theme and an archetype. Adam is the Caino archetype clown, one who is miserable but desires others to laugh and enjoy themselves. This gets twisted into him tying people onto a thrill ride and juggling chainsaws for the sake of “amusement”. The grocery clerk, Steven Chapman, is the archetype of the perfect retail employee. His archetype is twisted into someone who shrieks at the top of his lungs for people to get out of his store and he sets up a shopping cart with pitchforks and blades on it. There’s even a cult leader in a movie theater to make reference to the “cult of personality” where people go to watch and indulge in pointless films to simply argue and create teams against each other about “what media is better than another” with none of them realizing that they are just blindly following propaganda that makes them feel good or powerful. There’s a reason for these psychopaths to be there. They follow themes, they are archetypes, their actions relate to their themes, and even their settings fit their themes to create this deep experience that sticks with you, all while poking fun at the subject of consumerism. That is why people enjoy satire. The events are making fun of the major themes and subjects, all while being a part of those themes and subjects. The survivors are the same way, where you’re trying to save their lives and yet some of them worry more about food, when they are already fat, or they are found doing something they enjoyed in their normal life as if the zombie apocalypse is the perfect excuse to rush to escapism. In the second game, they do the same thing with corporations and big pharma, and they use satire in a similar way but didn’t really tie their themes to either one. Instead, they tied their themes to job titles and employment. Ted Smith, the tiger tamer who looks like if Bobby Hill had a baby with a potato and fed it paint chips, becomes a Psychopath to treat the tiger he grew attached to. Antoine Thomas, the chef that is a bitch to kill, goes crazy trying to create the perfect dish with human flesh. Or is it zombie flesh? Either way, once you meet the mailman with a shotgun who goes postal(yes, I went there, because the game went there), it’s easy to see that they are simply going crazy the same way the grocery clerk of the previous game went crazy. They had a job, they became that job, and they will die as that job. It’s kind of a way to talk about corporatism, but it’s also kind of not. This is why I think DR2 was starting to get messy with its themes and satire, because even though they were using satire to make fun of people who take their jobs too seriously, it’s not really part of the main theme, so it’s understandable why the Psychopaths are not as memorable. Strangely enough, the ones that are memorable are the ones who do fit the corporation theme, like the CURE terrorist who fights you with broken glass, and TK who serves as the main antagonist. Zombrex, the entire reason the game happens, due to big pharma needing zombies to create queens, which allows them to make more zombrex, is the biggest aid in the main theme. Even if you kill TK, the outbreaks will continue, because they would need more zombrex, which requires more zombies, which then makes more people need more zombrex. I swear that theme was far too genius for its own good. Sadly, the only part of the gameplay that relates to it is going over to a pawn shop that is owned by a faceless entity to buy weapons and zombrex, and that’s about it. I guess you can count the “spend money to make money” mentality with gambling because the entire business practice is a gamble, but I’m not really sure if that’s intentional or if I’m just fishing for anything relevant. To wrap up the satire segment, it’s kind of clear that the main idea behind the first 2 games, when it came to satire, was how the themes matched the events and the actions, as well as the humor. Anything goofy going on gameplay-wise is not part of the “world” that the story is setting up. You don’t craft weapons during a cutscene and it’s not like the game forces you to dress up like Megaman for a mission. Granted, there is the ability to be kidnapped by cultists in the first game and you wake up in a box in your underwear, but that’s still part of the gameplay, where it belongs. Now… let’s talk about parody, and boy is this going to be a rant. The third game is where everything goes downhill, story-wise. The idea of big pharma is gone, the idea of American consumerism is there accidentally, and the designers wanted to put a big emphasis on how combo weapons exist. You play as Nick Ramos, who is a mechanic and… that’s his entire character. While Frank was a big mouth pacifist who seeks the truth and Chuck was a hard-ass who wants safety for future generations, Nick is a clean slate who likes to scramble on the floor and awkwardly ask people why they’re killing people. Nick is no longer a character, but rather, a walking joke. He’s nothing more than the voice of the director telling the audience what they should be thinking in order for their awkward scenes to work. His over the top expressions, as if he’s auditioning to play the dad from Son of the Mask, are what the director wants the player to do when a fat lady stabs a man with an oversized fork or when a MILF cop puts his hand on her fake tit. The idea isn’t that he’s a satire of the typical zombie hero, but rather a slapstick parody of what the player does during gameplay. It’s hard to imagine Nick being shocked at a few dead bodies, then quickly fly into action with a boxing glove that has an acetylene tank taped onto it. The amount of difference between cutscenes and gameplay is so extreme, we’re more inclined to skip Psychopath introductions because Nick doesn’t act like the character we’ve been playing as, but rather acts like a helpless survivor that wandered away from the safe house. And before I go off on how the Psychopaths are like in the third game, I have to say that the idea of using the seven deadly sins was an okay idea. It’s not bad. I like themes that represent something. But what the hell does the seven deadly sins have to do with the theme of the story? I have to get into the main theme before I talk about the Psychopaths. While DR1 was about consumerism, and DR2 was about corporatism, DR3 flew way off-topic and decided to make a game about zombies discuss privacy and citizen rights. Yeah… I’m not a genius when it comes down to zombie tropes, but what exactly does a Hispanic dude helping out a group who call themselves The Illegals have to do with the plot of a zombie outbreak? If anything, the plot is saying “these illegals are a risk because there are people who create outbreaks if they are not tracked” and then the gameplay says “you must save these people who risk more outbreaks because they want to do things their own way” with then the plot later going “hey, remember those illegals, you have to help them because this one chick is an illegal and she’s important for no real reason.” Seriously, Annie, the major subplot out of like 5 different unrelated subplots, is Nick’s main objective in the beginning for no real reason. It’s never shown that they are dating, it’s never said she’s important to him, and it’s never said what Nick’s reason is other than “I have to find her”. This can only be concluded as a parody of how games give you missions for no reason. “Bring me 10 goat foreskins”. Why? I don’t know, but I’ll reward you with exp and gold. These main characters have nothing to them except for Gary, who is a mobster who used to be a wrestler, which touches a fall from grace personality that makes him cocky in his ability but humble in his situation. Everyone else is no longer an archetype or even remotely relatable to a character we can point to any zombie media. Annie is a babydoll goth only by appearance, Rhonda is a pinup punk, Red is a beatnik. These aren’t personalities, they are costumes that follow a stereotype, and they didn’t even bother to include the stereotype. Instead, we get these empty husks that are ready to tell jokes instead of supporting the reason why they are there, to begin with. Okay, I’ve delayed it long enough… It's time to talk about the Psychopaths. We get seven major Psychopaths that fill out the seven sins: Lust is an S&M performer who you find in a porn shop, gluttony is a fat lady on a scooter you find in a buffet, greed is a surgeon who is collecting organs, sloth is a champagne socialist you find in his mansion, wrath is a zen monk in his garden, envy is a nerd on a yacht who tries to be like Nick, and pride is a female bodybuilder you find in a gym. At first, from that alone, you can go “oh, that sounds good. The themes are in order, they don’t have much wrong with them, and they don’t conflict with their symbolism.” That is because, on paper, they are almost flawless. But once executed and given dialogue, they are no longer satire. They become parodies of sins. The only ones that stay in their lane are the surgeon and the S&M gimp, and that’s because their personalities and roles are easy to make rather threatening and psychopathic. The rest of them become these over the top cartoon representations that fart a lot and make jokes like they’re Jim Carrey during the dream scene in Dumb and Dumber. I swear, I’m not joking, two of them, sloth and gluttony, shit themselves when they die. Wrath, an old monk who’s gone mad and says “pretentious big brain Buddhist riddles” has his last word be “Seriously?!” after reminiscing about having a family. There’s nothing really about them that makes them sinners, other than how they set up jokes. Pride gets called “sir” by Nick, and it’s funny because she’s just a really buff chick with short hair, and Nick is supposed to be the player and Nick is a misgendering idiot. The rest of the Psychopaths, who are part of the main story, have very little to do with anything. To put it plainly, the theme we’ve established with the concept of illegals and citizen rights and privacy, the only thing the main story Psychopaths relate to is that some of them are police officers and military officials. This is just a parody of the previous games, where they had two DHS agents try to find out what’s going on with you, and now the government is your biggest enemy because there is The Illegals organization and they are important and stuff. I don’t think I have to get into the subject of the illegal crisis the US has had since before Dead Rising was a thing, but, just so we’re clear, the bitten illegals are a parody of the immigration illegals. They create an organization, they claim they just want to be safe and do things on their own, they want to stay off the grid, and then they have people like Red who go out of their way to destroy government property and we have people like Annie who has a father (Chuck Greene) who’s in charge of a mafia. I don’t know about you, but this sounds like a Spanish soap opera more than it sounds like a zombie game. Nothing about them is saying why they are illegal, or what the illegal status means to an outsider, or what the illegal status means to an insider. They say they are free and then they are held up in a shelter surrounded by zombies and they need Nick to save them. Speaking of Nick, let’s talk about his tattoo. Later on in the game, it’s revealed that Nick is part of an experiment where they had a bunch of children, who are immune to the virus but also carry it, go out into different places. The reason is kind of so that they can infect places, which is seen in an awful cutscene that is literally a museum of exposition, and it’s hinted that Nick or his friend Diego might have been the reason people were infected in their area, but it’s never really said. Instead, they drop that plot point and talk about how Nick is the cure. So, the entire time we’re playing as Nick, we are shown that he’s useless in human interactions and is a weakling, but then now he’s the cure and the savior of the human race, as long as he can be taken away and studied. This is a parody of exactly what Frank West’s character went through in the first game, which was a hero’s journey. You see, a hero’s journey, when applied with the Jungian form that Frank West had, is done right, you get a story that flows well and makes sense. Frank had the call of adventure towards the mall, he’s helped by the DHS agents, he gets mentors and helpers along the way, then he’s thrown into the abyss of the conspiracy, he changes from a journalist to a warrior of truth, he finds out he’s bitten and will soon turn, then he is granted the reward of finding a temporary cure with Isabella’s help. Near the end, he also encounters his shadow, who is a military commander. Frank is out to reveal the truth, while the military commander is out to conceal the truth. The battle challenges Frank’s beliefs of whether or not hiding such a big scoop is the right thing to do. Nick’s journey is a parody of this, minus the shadow. He starts off as useless, never really works for anything to happen, the entire story exists without him needing to be there, then near the end, they say “by the way, you’re important”, all for the story to say Nick is still not really that important and reveal that Isabella caused the outbreak so that Nick can reveal himself as someone who’s immune. This isn’t a hero’s journey. It’s not even a journey. It’s a series of unfortunate events that reward Nick for absolutely no reason. He has to survive because he’s special, but he didn’t do anything to be special, other than magically be good at combining things, which… is something everyone else can do in this world. The best way I can say his character fits the theme is by saying “the cure to a bad situation is to have someone who can fix stuff”. Doesn’t that sound absolutely engaging? Now, what about the fourth game? Is there anything else I really have to add to hammer in the idea that these two failures were accidental parodies? I guess I can say that the fourth game goes over consumerism, again, but leaves it at “hey, Christmas is a thing, right?” Nothing in the story really deals with the theme of consumerism because that game has the theme of freaking transhumanism. The main villain is a dude who’s a conscious zombie with robot armor and Frank West turns into a zombie, only to be turned back into a human. Frank turns into a rotting corpse… then he turns back into a fully functional human. Trust me, that’s a parody. That’s just a joke with nothing funny attached to it, much like most of Frank’s dialogue in the fourth game. All he does is wisecracks and Uncharted-esque zingers. His personality is to wait for someone to give him material to make fun of and to have pointless arguments with Asian women. Even when I say the theme is about transhumanism, it really does just end at that. There are no more Psychopaths, they replaced them with maniacs. The maniacs are a parody of Psychopaths. Characters like the Sadistic Claus and Captain Black Fridaybeard have nothing to do with the theme and they have nothing to do with reality. They are just there, wielding electric axes and ice swords because that’s how the designers wanted to reward the player for defeating an opponent that is easier than finding something to be disappointed within the game. Archetypes are more than just catchphrases, vernacular, and stereotypes. They have an actual purpose and theme that is carried out by their actions and desires because the most important part of an archetype is their specific desire. When all the maniac simply desires is “kill everything” then they’re no different from a wandering zombie. They are reduced to a parody of what the psychopaths were. The story was reduced to a parody of the first game, with the theme even being parodied as “with consumerism, we can achieve transhumanism” as part of the plot. It’s basically saying, “you eat a lot and we end up with robo-zombies that talk.” Frank himself was reduced to a parody of Frank, with his charismatic journalistic archetype being replaced by Carrot Top and his bag o’ funny props. At no point am I saying that parody is bad. To be honest, I love parody movies like Scary Movie, especially Scary Movie 2. However, when we want to make a game fun, and when it’s a game like Dead Rising, the jokes of said parody should make us actually laugh. It should try to make us amused, and that’s hard to do with a setting that’s also trying to take itself seriously at times. It’s like trying to enjoy a parody episode of Simpson’s Treehouse of Horrors and the entire time they play it off like it’s supposed to be serious. That serious tone is great for satire, but it’s just too out of place for parody. Parody can exist within satire, but satire cannot exist within a parody. Satire relies on the themes of the subject to make the humor have its punch, while parody is simply a joke that uses a theme and subject as a platform to talk about something unrelated. I believe the designers who messed up on that little bit of nuance had the right intentions but didn’t have the right direction. If anything, nobody told them the first game was satire and the second game was kind of trying to copy the first game in approach and they lucked out by great observation. But the second they decided to try something else, they had no idea what the original plan was and went off into their presumed direction, parody. It’s amazing how such a small mistake can cause such big problems, but let that be a lesson to you. The slightest misunderstanding you have of the art you try to mimic can cause the biggest differences in how people compare yours with the original source. There are things that stick with people and there are things that fall flat. The more you understand the established concepts that people enjoy, the better you’ll be able to please your audience and returning fans. If you don’t understand how the art was well received, and you go by “top trends of the previous year”, you’re going to make another Dead Rising 4.
LAL Season 3 - Truth Tellers, Liars and Consequences
I’m changing the title again: Truth Tellers, Liars and Consequences. And by the way, how dare they leave us on a cliffhanger!!! But we do re-visit the train wrecks from Season 2! Tyrice (Electric Blue Slide) and Chanda - hmmmm. Was it just me or did that feel like goodbye at the bus station? I just wasn’t getting that feeling like this train is leaving a station. I do like the way Tyrice is as a person and I loved that he acknowledged that it might not be right for Chanda either. Little Ty is the resident truth teller but, I think Tyrice has got this. Joliet Dylan and Sybil (aka Heather). Why Sybil? 1000 kinds of cray cray wound way too tight. I said this was Brad and Juliette from “Kalifornia” and every minute that ticked by in a state of hypersexual mania only reinforced that feeling. And Joliet Dylan has only been arrested 35 times. You know how it is right? This is pure amour fou! Crazy love! Chief Crazy Truck and his Squaw Halfway Runaway. Lord, beer me. Tailed by the mounties, the Chief and Halfway make their way through the great prairies of Dubuque. Not noticing the cavalry surrounding them, they and their vapes cleverly have mapped out chances to visit, vape and eat while asking for applications. The calvary grabs Halfway Runaway and takes her back to Fort Moneypit. There, our heroine bemoans her fate as a captive while Chief Crazy Truck vapes outside of the fort’s walls and considers a plan to save his bride. Stay tuned!! Jeff Daniels and BabyBoy - Don’t talk about parole, don’t talk about parole, don’t talk about parole....BabyBoy essentially cases house for future lick and then breaks out the news that he’s breaking parole! Can these two numbskulls really be this stupid? What did you do for two days? Played video games. Is this the same person who pissed on CA and said it gave him nothing then started talking about his daughter he just left there? I’m not even getting into the cockroach story at breakfast! Jeff Daniel’s dad is not going to take any shit from this one. Shovel and Quaylon - First, I think Q3 and DMark need to be a couple!! Two resident truth tellers, both have a lot of heart and soul! That’s a powerful couple right there! I think Q2 and Shovel’s mom both had great points. I thought they both kept it classy and I think they both are on the same page in looking out for their kids. I like them both and respect them both. Shovel does have Quaylon on a leash and I want to know who Quaylon had on the phone. But, right now, this thing is on some shaky ground. Crazy Eyes and the Mullet. Thank you Hector!!!! I want DMark and Hector to just walk through life with me stopping me from mistakes. I love these two! I needed Veronica, Hector’s wife too, but.....yes. Too much, too fast. Crazy Eyes is literally on a Tracy Goddess like free for all!! We now know that if her drug of choice, heroin, isn’t available, then copious amounts of hand sanitizer with lots of kool aid will fill the bill! Covid be damned!!! As he combs through the high end store receipts and finds withdrawal after withdrawal at the casino! The casino! That 2k ring is already in a pawn shop next to Circus! Circus! on the strip. But the least he could do is blow up the pool toys for her. Right? How dare the Mullet lie to Crazy Eyes!! Assault him and demand a plane ticket! But she still has a date with Furniture Girl right? Scott and Southern Gothic Lindsey - that house. Dude, you lived there a year and the sky was the limit on decorating. You have a two seat cab truck for potentially three of you. You couldn’t clean the house? Or put the kids room together? Or hang up the clothes? On the other hand, we have Norma Desmond throwing a Hollywood sized tantrum. Girl, you need to re-think your reality. The things in magazines are not reality personified. You were on the WRONG website if you were looking for a Sugar Daddy. Scott is not even a Sugar Baby! We leave Norma Desmond flinging her red hair around in her 5x8 half finished California closet with a dirty floor. October feels a long time away. But we still have Angela and Tony!!!
